The Snuff Box is of an oval form with silver sides and mounts and a stand away hinge. The base is inset with a plain tortoiseshell panel and the cover displays a most unusual panel decorated with fine bead work depicting a cherub, holding a torch, flying in the sky, with exotic birds and insects. Plants and bushes are shown at the base. This is the first time we have seen this form of decoration and this very rare subject matter. The box is in excellent condition and the tortoiseshell is beautifully shaded.
