A very fine Charles II Porringer made in London in 1683, makers mark of TC, with a fish above.

The Porringer is modelled in an unusual small size and is circular in form with a slightly everted rim. The lower section of the main body is decorated with acanthus and palm leaves, which were popular decorative motifs after the restoration of the Monarchy. The upper section of the main body is chased with a horizontal band of stylised arrow heads and displays two cast and applied scroll handles. The Porringer is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the base. The makers mark is clearly shown on page 133 of Jacksons, Silver & Gold Marks, and it would appear that he specialised in eating and drinking vessels. Porringers were used to eat from and this example is of an unusual smaller size.
