This silver gilt rarity is of the heavy die stamped variety and is of a large cartouche shape. Hunting has provided inspiration for many labels and this piece displays a Boar's head, surrounded by the instruments of the chase, including arrows in a quiver, spears and an axe. The front is also decorated with raised trailing vine and grapes. The banner is pierced for MADEIRA and an identical example, by the same maker, engraved for Bucellas, is shown in " Wine Labels - A Worldwide History" page 95. This is a particularly rare design, in quite exceptionally crisp condition.
Width: 2.55 inches, 6.38 cm.
Length: 2 inches, 5cm.
