WILLIAM & MARY. A very fine Trefid Spoon made in London in 1689, makers mark of IL in a shield with a pellet below.

The Spoon is made in the Trefid style and displays a reeded rat tail on the reverse of the bowl. The top of the stem is engraved with a set of contemporary initials, surrounded by unusual engraved star motifs. This spoon has exceptional marks and is of a very good colour. The exterior of the bowl also shows the original hammer marks from when it was fashioned in 1689. The makers mark is show on page 130 of Jacksons Silver & Gold Marks. The reign of William & Mary only lasted for six years, before the death of Queen Mary, therefore the amount of silver found from this period is limited.
