Phipps & Robinson. An exceptional George III Snuff Box made by Phipps & Robinson in London in 1790.

This pocket Snuff Box is of an elliptical form and is engraved on the cover and base with a band of roundels and scrolls. The sides are decorated with an eclectic mix of bright cut and prick dot bands and the cover is also engraved with beautiful floral and foliate garlands. The centre is engraved with an oval bright cut cartouche, with foliate motif above, which contains a set of contemporary script initials. The interior displays exceptional interior gilding and this box is very well marked including an additional sterling mark on the exterior of the side. Phipps and Robinson were the finest box makers working in London at this date and snuff boxes of this design and quality, seldom appear on the market today. A very fine and desirable box.
