PHIPPS & ROBINSON. An exceptional George III 'Kitchen' Nutmeg Grater made in London in 1803 by Phipps & Robinson.
231539
This rare piece has a semi circular form, with reeded borders and an arched handle for hanging up when not in use. The top is engraved with an unusual contemporary Crest and the hinged bottom opens to reveal the space where the Nutmegs would have been kept. Kitchen graters are extremely rare and are usually made by the superior box makers, Phipps & Robinson. The steel grater is pierced with roundels of different sizes. The interior is fully marked and the inside of the base with the makers mark and sterling mark. A rare desirable example.
