Newcastle. A pair of English Provincial Salt Cellars made in Newcastle circa 1790 by John Langlands.

The Salt Cellars are modelled in an unusual Tub form and the slightly baluster sides rise to an everted rim decorated with reeding. The interiors are finely gilded and the front is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. Both are well marked and in excellent condition.
