NATHANIEL MILLS. An exceptional Castle Top Snuff Box made in Birmingham in 1840 by Nathaniel Mills.


The Snuff Box is broad rectangular in form with incuse enging turned sides and a cast floral border on the cover and the base. The base is also engraved with the contemporary inscription:

The inscription is all contained within an engine turned engraved frame. The cover displays one of the most finely detailed high relief views of York Minster, which we have ever seen. The box is in exceptional condition as it still remains within its original velvet lined leather case. The interior is very well marked and displays exceptional gilding.
