HESTER BATEMAN. An exceptionally fine pair of George III Salt Cellars made in London in 1787 by Hester Bateman.

The Salt Cellars are oval in form with slightly raised beaded rims. Each stands on four unusual attractive Classical column feet. The oval main bodies are beautifully pierced with an upper and lower band of folaite motifs, in addition to pretty flower heads in roundels. The sides are also engraved with crisp floral and foliate garlands. The front of each piece displays a prick dot oval cartouche containing the contemporary script initial B. The Salt Cellars have blue glass liners, are in excellent condition and are very well marked. This is an unusual design by Hester Bateman and we have to emphasise that they are some of the finest Salts we have offered from her workshops.
