HESTER BATEMAN. A fine pair of George III Salt Cellars made in London in 1780 by Hester Bateman.

The Neo-Classical Salt Cellars are oval in form with a beaded rim and stand on four claw and ball feet. The sides are unusually pierced with vertical pails and an upper and lower band of vitruvian scrolls. The sides and rear are decorated with a Neo-Classical urn in an oval frame and the front is engraved with a contemporary Scottish Crest, with the Motto above. The Salts have star cut blue glass liners and are very well marked on the base.
