HENRY CHAWNER. An extremely fine & rare George III Mazarin made in London in 1788 by Henry Chawner.

The Mazarin is oval in form with a raised rim. The centre is engraved with an eye shaped panel of trellis work which is engraved in the centre with a contemporary Crest. This panel is surrounded by beautiful scroll work, roundels and stylised flower heads, this is all surrounded by an oval band of scrolls. The quality of design and production is exceptional, as would be expected from this premier silversmith. The Mazarin is very well marked on the reverse.

Mazarins are rare and were not made in great quantities, especially in this small size. They were placed on meat and serving dishes, so that any juices or liquid could drain through.
