The Needle Case has slightly tapering, chamfered, bloodstone sides, which are overlaid with bands of gold cage work, depicting Rococo "C" scrolls, foliate motifs and floral sprays. The opening mechanism is inset with a ruby which, when pushed, opens up the hinged cover and reveals the interior gold mounts. This is a rare survivor from this period and is in exceptional condition.
A similar needle case is illustrated in "Les Tabatieres de Muse de Louvre, page 312, number 484" by Serge Grandjean.
