This very rare box is circular in form with a plain base. The pull off cover is decorated with an outer frame of linear swirls enclosing a raised profile bust of King George I, flanked by the initials GR, for George Rex. Boxes with George I's profile on are extremely rare. He was a very unpopular King and was resented when he came over from Hanover to take the British throne, after the death of the much loved Queen Anne. It was very quickly realised that these boxes were not popular and very few were subsequently made. This is only the second we have offered in over fifty years. The box is in excellent condition and is marked on the base with the maker's mark.

Height: 0.5 inches, 1.25cm.
Diameter: 1.35 inches, 3.38 cm.
