DUBLIN. An extremely rare pair of George III 'Tub' Salt Cellars made in Dublin in 1803 by Gustavus Byrne.


The Salt Cellars are unusually modelled as Tubs, with applied reeded bands and arched carrying handles. The front of each piece is engraved with a contemporary Crest and the reverse with a set of script initials. Both are well marked and display gilded interiors. Tub Salt Cellars are very rare from Ireland and an oval pair are shown in Irish Georgian Silver by Douglas Bennett. Gustavus Byrne is an extremely rare maker and this is the first time we have offered any items from his workshops. Both are in excellent condition and the quality is exceptional.
