Dublin. A very rare George III antique silver Wine Coaster made in Dublin circa 1780 by Christopher Haines.
This very rare Wine Coaster is modelled in the Neo Classical manner and displays a beaded rim. The sides are pierced with vertical pails and two horizontal pierced and engraved bands of foliate motifs and floral medallions, in addition to Classical raying flower heads in ovals. The front of the Coaster displays a square disc cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Coaster has a turned fruitwood base and this piece is well marked around one of the flower heads. Wine Coasters from Ireland are extremely rare, as is Irish Neo Classically designed silver, sometimes seen with Irish Georgian Dish Rings.Height: 1.8 inches, 4.5cm.Diameter: 5 inches, 12.5cm
