CALCUTTA. A very rare Ice Pail made in Calcutta circa 1825 by Hamilton & Company.

The Pail stands on four cast winged paw feet and the tapering sides are decorated with reeded bands and vertical linear bands, to simulate the design of a pail. This example has two reeded carrying handles attached to the main body with foliate mouldings. The pull off cover is also decorated with reeding and terminates in a foliate finial. The Pail is fully marked on the base and is engraved with a contemporary elephant Crest. This is a design which was produced in Calcutta and similar pieces, of various sizes, are shown in Indian Colonial Silver, by Wynyard Wilkinson.

Height: 9 inches, 22.5cm.

Length, across the handles: 7.9 inches, 19.75cm.

Weight: 31oz.
