The naturalistic twisted handle is decorated with applied flower heads and leaves. The gilded fluted bowl is also decorated with a flower head, flanked by foliate motifs. This is a known design from the workshops of Hilliard & Thomason and an identical example, of the same date, can be seen on plate 57 of Caddy Spoons, by Captain John Norie. Part of the makers mark is shown under the applied decoration.
