An important & extremely rare early George III Dish Cross made in Edinburgh IN 1766 by the rare partnership of Gillsand & Ker.

The Dish Cross is of the typical X form with sliding supports to accomadate different sizes of dish. This example has four cast ends, with unusual beautifully pierced feet and upper oval dish supports. The central baluster burner, has a pull-off cover which is decorated with reeding. The underside is very well marked in the Scottish manner and one of the oval supports is engraved with a contemporary Scottish Crest, with the Motto Fide Et Spe - With Faith and Hope. The Crest and Motto are those of Borthwick of Crookston, County Edinburgh. The Dish Cross is in excellent condition and is very well marked. Its design and size, is different to examples which would have been seen in England. Dish Crosses from Scotland are extremely rare and we know of only seven in existence in the World.
