This piece is the earliest Chamberstick which we have offered over the years and very few are known to exist from this date.  The Chamberstick stands on two cast scroll feet.  The base rises to a raised corded rim, typical decoration of the period. The central socket is circular in form and is attached to the base with stylised petals.  The socket is pierced with tear drop motifs, above a raised girdle and the everted rim is decorated with gadrooning.  This piece has a cast carrying handle, which also acts as another leg.  This piece is in excellent condition and has a very good colour.  The only other examples we have found of this design are in the Manchester City Museum and Art Gallery.  An exceptionally rare example.
