These very rare pieces must have been made to go alongside one of the rare double lipped sauceboats. The cellars stand on a cast, oval, shaped foot decorated with gadrooning. The elongated main body is baluster in form and displays two pouring spouts at each end, so that two spoons could be placed in each cellar. The rim displays a Rococo cast and applied gadroon, scroll and foliate edge and the scroll handles are attached to the main body with raying shell mouldings. Each has a palely gilded interior and are very well marked in the foot with IL for John Laver. The side is also engraved with a contemporary Crest. Laver is recorded as being of Huguenot descent which would account for the fine quality of these pieces. He was apprentice to the famous candlestick maker, James Gould, and had workshops in Parson's Court Bridge Lane, Fleet Street, when these were made.
