The Mug is of an unusually large size and stands on a spreading tucked in foot, decorated with reeding.  The slightly tapering main body rises to an everted rim and this piece has a plain scroll handle.  The front of the main body is beautifully engraved with a large contemporary Armorial, surrounded by a scroll, scale and foliate strap work cartouche.   The Mug is in excellent condition and is fully marked in the foot including the unusual maker's mark of William Looker which is shown in A.G.Grimwade, Mark 3891.  The impaled Arms are those of the Winfield family.
