An unusual George III Neo Classical Taperstick made in London in 1778 by William Abdy

The Taperstick stands on a square base which is unusually decorated with ovals, beads and foliate garlands either side of Neo Classical urn motifs in an oval frame. The ribbed main shaft and capital are stylised corinthian design. The pull-off nozzle has incuse edges and is decorated with ovals and beading. The base is loaded with mahogany and displays an oval cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The base is very well marked and the nozzle displays a good makers mark.
