An important George III Silver Gilt Basket of exceptional design and production. Made in London in 1817 by John Edward Terrey

This extremely unusual piece stands on a circular foot and displays a circular bowl which is decorated with lobing. The rim of the main body has an egg and dart border and is most beautifully, and unusually, decorated with applied trailing vines and grapes, which was a type of decoration which John Edward Terrey favoured. This quality of production is shown in that the rim is actally bolted in place underneath. The arched handle has a reeded edge and fluted mouldings and is also decorated with the applied trailing vines and grapes. This piece is of a very rare design which seldom appears on the market and is in excellent condition, with crisp marks.

Height to the top of the handle: 8.75 inches, 21.88cm.

Diameter: 9.5 inches, 23.75cm.

Weight: 27oz
