An important Charles II silver mounted shagreen Wallet/Aide Memoire made almost certainly in London circa 1680

This important Charles II Wallet/Aide Memoire Case is of rectangular form and has a shagreen cover. The corner mounts and oval central discs are shown on both sides and are beautifully engraved with floral and foliate designs, including tulips. This piece, most unusually, also has its original lock, with key hole plate, and clasp, also engraved with floral designs and scroll work on the clasp to simulate a Tudor rose. Miraculously this piece still has its original steel key and the spring lock still functions. Once opened the case displays its original green velvet interior. There is also a tubular section, at the top, where a writing implement could have been kept. This is an incredibly rare survivor, especially with the key and lock, as very few have survived in this outstanding condition.
