An extremely rare George III Tortoiseshell Pique Gaming Counter Box made, most probably, in London circa 1780.
199909
The velvet lined circular counter box has a pull off cover which is decorated with an outer band of silver star motifs and a central circular vacant cartouche. The box contains four circular tortoiseshell gaming counters decorated with a silver wavy wriggle work border and a central playing card, depicting the one, two, three and four of clubs. This is the first time we have seen such a piece, complete, after all this time with its original counters.
