An extremely rare George III Penner made in Birmingham circa 1795 by Joseph Taylor.

This is the first Penner we have offered for sale, such are their scarcity. This piece comes apart in three sections, the slightly tapering base would have been filled with ink and the slender shaft the pen. The top can be removed and then doubles up as the nib of the pen. It all then fits back together for ease of carriage. The base is engraved with foliate bands and a vacant shield shaped cartouche. The pen is decorated with spiral bands and stylised floral motifs. The Penner is marked on the base with a crisp makers mark of IT for Joseph Taylor. A very rare, beautifully made, piece in excellent condition.

Length: 4.1 inches, 10.25cm
