An extremely rare George III Neo Classical Vase shaped Nutmeg Grater made most probably in London circa 1775.

The Nutmeg Grater is beautifully modelled in the very rare vase/urn form and stands on a square foot, with cut corners. The hinged domed cover terminates in a ball finial and displays a beaded bright cut border. Both the front and reverse of the main body is engraved with an oval bright cut cartouche, containing contemporary script initials. Once the cover is opened, the main body also opens up to reveal the steel grater. This piece is in excellent condition. Although unmarked, this piece was almost certainly made in London circa 1775. It was almost certainly a special commission or rushed order and went straight from the workshops to the client, which often happened with smallwares. This is the first time we have ever offered an urn nutmeg grater, as so very few were made and they hardly ever appear on the market.
