An extremely rare George III 'Bacchus on a Barrel' Wine Label made in Dublin circa 1797 by Thomas Tudor.
277540
The Label is an example of the very rare Bacchus on a Barrel design which was peculiar to Ireland. The eye shaped label displays a crisp bright cut border and is engraved for PORT. The Bacchus sits above, astride a barrel of wine, with a flask in one hand and a goblet in the other, enjoying the proceedings. The Bacchus is flanked by stylised foliate supports on both sides. This label is a masterpiece of the piercer and engravers work and is in excellent condition. The label has crisp marks to the reverse. For a similar example see Wine Labels 1730-2003, page 275.
