An extremely fine & unusual George II Tortoiseshell Pique Snuff Box made, most probably, in London circa 1730.

This fine box unusually has a square form, as many are oval at this date. The base and sides are made of tortoiseshell and the hinged cover is inlaid with beautiful beaded borders and scrolls, in addition to an unusual central heart motif. It is our opinion that this may well have been given as a token of love. This is also the first time we have seen such an early box of this form, with such unusual pique work designs.
