An extremely fine & rare early George I Standing Scottish Snuff Canister made circa 1735.

The Canister is oval in form with a waisted shape. The horn main body has upper and lower silver mounts, which are beautifully shaped to simulate scrolls and foliate motifs. The main body also displays a reeded girdle around the lower section. The hinged cover has an outer silver rim and a central oval inlaid section which is pierced and chased with flowers and scroll work. The centre of the cover is engraved with a circular cartouche containing a contemporary Scottish Crest below an Earls Coronet and the Motto Be Just and Fear Not. The Canister is a very rare survivor and in excellent condition. The quality is emphasised in that the interior of the cover is leather lined.
