An extremely fine pair of George III Wine Coasters both made in London by William Plummer one in 1780 and the other in 1782.

The Wine Coasters are circular in form and display deep sides decorated with a beaded band on the base and the rim. The sides are beautifully pierced and engraved with trailing floral sprigs and flower heads in ovals. The sides also display both bright cut and prick dot engraved bands. The boxwood turned bases are centred by a silver circular boss engraved with a contemporary Crest. The piercing and engraving has been executed to the highest standard, as would be expected from this specialist piercer who had a reputation for quality of design and production. The difference in dates is purely where the set was extended and the client ordered additional coasters from Plummers workshops. Both are identical.
