An exceptionally rare and fine Charles II Double Opening Snuff Box made circa 1680.

This exceptionally rare piece has a slender broad rectangular form, with cut corners and a reeded protruding edge, on both the cover and base. Both the cover and base are engraved with an outer border of arrow heads on a scratch engraved ground. This border encloses two panels of pluming foliate scrolls, which were typical designs seen on boxes of this period. The interior displays pale gilding, which shows very high quality of production. This is the first time we have seen a double opening Snuff Box from this period and was obviously used to carry two different blends of Snuff. We conclude that this piece, may have been a special commission. The box is of a very good gauge and weight and has an excellent colour
