An exceptionally fine George III silver based Wine Coaster made in London in 1768 by Thomas Nash

The Coaster has a dipping gadrooned rim and silver base. The sides are beautifully pierced to the highest degree with scroll work, flower heads and foliate motifs. The base is engraved with a Crest, with the Motto above, and the side is engraved with the same Crest, below the Coronet of a Baron. The Crest and Motto are those as used by the eminent Statesman Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham & Vaux of Brougham Hall, Penrith, County Westmorland. Thomas Nash was a specialist pierced worker who made pieces of the finest quality in terms of both design and production.
