An exceptionally fine and extremely rare pair of oval Butter Dishes made in London in 1800 by William Abdy.

The Dishes are oval in form with straight sides, which rise to gadrooned borders. The sides are also beautifully engraved with prick dot borders and a central band of trailing vines and grapes on a matted ground. The Dishes do not have liners, but silver bases, which is always a sign of quality of production. The Dishes are in excellent condition and it is the first time we have seen this specific design before, which leads us to believe that they may well have been a special commission. As well as Butter, they could be used for serving a wide range of foods such as olives, pate etc. An exceptionally fine and beautiful pair of dishes.
