An exceptional George III Tortoiseshell Pique Etui made, most probably in London, circa 1800.

The Etui has a slightly tapering, cut cornered rectangular form. The exterior is unusually decorated with silver stars and a circular cartouche on each side engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. The cover also displays a circular cartouche engraved with the date 1800, obviously when the piece was given. The interior is lined with red velvet and displays a Bristol blue shaped scent bottle, with stopper, and hinged silver gilt cover chased with foliate scrolls. The interior also contains a silver gilt bodkin and ear scoop. A very unusual beautiful example, in excellent condition.
