ADMIRAL LORD NELSON. An exceptionally rare George III Nelson Counter Box and Counters, the box made in Birmingham in 1805 by Samuel Pemberton.


The Counter Box has a pull off cover and both the cover and base are engraved with zig zag bands. The box contains four counters , each commemorating one of Nelsons famous victories. Each conter is decorated on the front with a detailed profile bust of Admiral Lord Nelson enclosed by an outer border of England Expects Every Man Will Do His Duty. The reverse of each of the counters details four of Nelsons victories, these being the Battle of St. Vincent,1797, The Battle of Copenhagen,1801, The Battle of Aboukir. 1798 & The Battle of Trafalgar, 1805.

The Counters are finely struck by an unknown medallist. A similar set is illustrated in Silver Boxes by Eric Delieb, Plate 25, Page 20. Very few of these boxes survive in complete condition, an exceptionally rare Historical piece.
