A very rare William III silver gilt mounted two colour agate Patch Box made circa 1690, most probably in London.
372987
The Patch Box is oval in form with two different agates set into the cover and the base. The agate panels display a stylised silver gilt foliate frame and rope work border. The agates have been hollowed out in order for the patches to be kept inside. This is a particularly rare item and very unusual being made from silver mounted agate panels. The piece is unmarked, however the engraving and style of the mounts date it to the late 17th century period.
