A very rare pair of George III Neo Classical Snuffer Trays made in London in 1789 by William Abdy.
The Snuffer Trays are elliptical in form with a raised rim which is decorated with beading. Each end is beautifully pierced and engraved with a band of stylised foliate motifs and a Neo Classical urn, contained within an oval frame. The centre of each tray is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by drapery mantling, all contained within a bright cut oval cartouche. Both pieces are in quite excellent condition and are fully marked on the reverse. It is most unusual to find a pair of Snuffer Trays, as they usually only appear singly.Length: 9.8 inches, 24cm.Width: 3.9 inches, 9.75 cm.Weight: 10 oz, the pair.
