A very rare George III 'Kidney' Caddy Spoon made in Birmingham in 1808 by Cocks & Bettridge.
276764
This is another rare Caddy Spoon design. The kidney form were made in the workshops of Cocks & Bettridge and the bowl is modelled to simulate the shape of the kidney. This example is unusually engraved with a band of wriggle work on a prick dot ground, surrounded by various zig zag borders. The Old English pattern handle is engraved with foliate motifs and the top displays an oval cartouche engraved with script initials. A similar form is shown in Caddy Spoons - an illustrated guide on plate 50, fig e. The Spoon is in excellent condition and is very well marked. A rare design.
