A very rare George III Cast 'Four Leaf Clover' Wine Label made in London in 1807 by Benjamin Smith II.

This exceptional Wine Label is cast and is realistically modelled as a Four leaf clover with matted textured surface and drop above. The central, plain rectangular, banner is pierced for CLARET and this label is in very fine and crisp condition. This particular label is illustrated, figure 575, in Wine Labels - 1730-2003, A Worldwide History. Benjamin Smith specialised in this design and was probably first made as an Armorial label. Smith supplied the Royal Retailers, Rundell, Bridge & Rundell and this design is represented with a set in the Royal Collection. They seldom appear on the market today.
