A very rare George II Silver Gilt Escutcheon Pocket Snuff Box made in London in 1754 by Robert Collier.
199916
This silver gilt Snuff Box is of the escutcheon form, with plain sides and base decorated with raised reeded bands. The cover is most beautifully decorated with a detailed scene from Classical Antiquity depicting two figures, one seated, wearing flowing robes and with two dogs. The background depicts classical columns, with urns on top, as well as scroll work, floral garlands, shells and foliage. This is a rare subject to see on an escutcheon box and this example is in excellent condition. The box is fully marked in the base and with the makers mark in the cover.
