A very pretty George III Sugar Basket made in London in 1791 by Henry Chawner.

The Basket stands on an oval pedestal foot with scalloped edge decorated with prick dot bands. The main body echoes the shape of the foot and has a reeded rim. The upper section also displays a beautiful band of bright cut flower heads in diamonds and ovals on a prick dot and scratch engraved ground. The interior is finely gilded and the arched swing handle is decorated with reeding. The base is very well marked and the front of the basket is engraved with a contemporary Crest issuing from a Ducal Crest. This basket is in excellent crisp condition. Henry Chawner was a master engraver, which is shown with the decoration on this basket.
