A very fine & unusual William & Mary Tortoiseshell Pique Snuff Box made, most probably, in London circa 1690-95.

The Snuff Box is of a most unusual size and was most probably for the use of a Lady. This example is oval in form, with silver sides and hinge. The Tortoiseshell base and cover are secured in place by a silver oval frame. The base displays a plain tortoiseshell panel and the cover is beautifully inlaid with finely detailed silver bead work, including stars, scrolls and stylised flower heads. The work has been executed to the highest standard and is possibly the finest example of this fine bead work we have seen, as it has ceratinly been executed by an experienced handle.
