A very fine pair of George III Candlesticks made in Sheffield in 1783 by Samuel Roberts & Company.

£ 4,850

These very fine Candesticks stand on bevelled square bases decorated with finely beaded bands. The front of the base is engraved with a contemporary oval Armorial surrounded by a Classical laurel leaf, scroll and paterae cartouche. The unusual tapering, fluted, columns are decorated with fluting, beading and foliate motifs. The main shaft rises to an unusual vase shaped socket which is decorated with beading, as is the circular detachable nozzle, which is also engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Arms and Crest are those of the Fenn family of County Suffolk, impaling those of the Argenton family. The Candlesticks are modelled in a very unusual Classical style and are of a good large size. Both are in excellent condition and have bases loaded with mahogany. The base also displays a crisp, full, set of hallmarks and the nozzles are marked with a crisp maker's mark and sterling mark.

Height: 12.75 inches, 31.88cm.
Diagonal diameter of the base: 7 inches, 17.5cm
