A very fine George III Sugar Basket made in London in 1781 by Charles Chesterman.


This very beautiful basket stands on a square pedestal foot which is decorated with prick dot designs. The rim, and swing handle, are decorated with beading and the main body is pierced with beautiful designs including pluming scrolls, flowerheads in roundels and Neo Gothic archwork. The main body is also engraved with prick dot bands and a double contemporary Crest, on a circular disc cartouche. The basket is fully marked in the foot and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the handle. This piece is in excellent condition and has a blue glass liner.
