A very fine George III Sugar Basket made in London in 1781 by Robert Hennell.


The Sugar Basket is of a large size and stands on a domed foot decorated with beading and pierced with vertical pails and diamonds. The rim and arched handle are also decorated with beading and the vase shaped main body is pierced with Neo-Gothic designs together with horizontal blue bell drops, surrounding a frieze of foliate scrolls and flower heads. The front of the main body displays a circular cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest, below script intials. The Sugar basket has a blue glass liner, is in excellent condition and is very well marked in the foot.

Diameter at the rim: 4.75 inches, 11.88cm.
