A very fine George III Pocket Snuff Box made in London in 1796 by Thomas Phipps & Edward Robinson.

The Snuff Box is broad rectangular in form, with slightly rounded ends. The cover and base are engraved with an outer border of leaf motifs on a scratch engraved ground. The centre of the cover is engraved with a rectangular cut cornered cartouche containing the contemporary script initials WnB, with crossed branches below and a foliate motif above. The sides display various prick dot and bright cut bands. The interior is well marked and displays exceptional gilding. This example is of the finest quality as would be expected from the workshops of Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson, who made some of the finest boxes in London at this date.
