A very fine early George III Covered Tankard made in London in 1765 by Samuel Wood.

The Tankard stands on a stepped spreading foot which is decorated with reeding. The main body is baluster shaped in form, with an applied reeded girdle around the lower section. The stepped domed cover is also decorated with reeding and displays a cast chair back thumb piece. The scroll handle terminates in a heart shaped motif, at the base, and is engraved with the contemporary initials C*W. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Crest and this piece is fully marked in the foot and on the cover, in addition to a good makers mark on the handle. The Tankard is in excellent condition and is of the finest quality, as one would expect from this maker.
