A very fine Book Vinaigrette of large size made in London in 1849 by Rawlings & Summers.

The Vinaigrette is of the finest quality and is decorated on the cover and base with crisp engine turning. The side is also engraved with engine turning and reeded bands to simulate the spine of the book, as well as a set of contemporary initials. The interior displays exceptional gilding and a grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls and flower heads. Rawlings and Summers made, probably, the finest Book Vinaigrettes at this date and this example is unusual as it is all silver, as very often they are gilded on the exterior.
