A rare George III Tortoiseshell Pique Necessaire made, most probably in London, circa 1780.

The Necessaire is broad rectangular in form with cut corners and a hinged cover. Both the front and reverse are decorated with silver and mother of pearl pique work, including floral sprays and a navette shaped motif enclosing a stylised silver flower head. The pique work has been executed to the highest standard. The interior is velvet lined and fitted out to contain its original scissors, scent bottle and stopper, tortoiseshell penknife, Ivory hinged Aide Memoire and pencil, as well as two bodkins. The Necessaire is in quite excellent condition and this is the finest, fully complete, example we have offered in many years.
